Before You Apply

I’m a current Macy’s employee – how do I apply for a new opportunity at Macy’s?

First, we’re excited that you want to continue to grow your career at Macy’s! Just see a Human Resources Representative at your location; he or she can provide details on the internal application process for the job that interests you.


What’s the minimum age requirement to work at Macy’s?

In most states, the minimum age is 18.


What do positions at Macy’s pay?

A lot of different factors go into determining pay, including the type of position, candidate skill level and relevant experience.  The interview process is the best time to find out what this means for you.


How many can I apply for at a time?

You can apply for as many as you like, but we can only consider you for one at a time.  To ensure you’re being considered for the role that interests you most, our suggestion is to apply for that one only.  If that one doesn’t work out, then it’s a great time to apply for other opportunities.


Will I be able to grow my career at Macy’s?

One of the most exciting things about working in retail is that there’s so much opportunity under one roof. We take pride in promoting from within, and there are a lot of potential career paths and growth opportunities in every part of our business.  Wherever you are in the organization, your supervisor will play an active role in understanding your interests and how you can meet your goals. 


If I start as a seasonal hire, what are my chances of turning it into a regular position?

Many of our regular employees started in a seasonal or other temporary position – we take pride in promoting from within, so as opportunities become available, we look internally to fill them. Based on your performance, you’d be among the first considered if you’ve expressed interest in continuing your employment.


Completing Your Application

I forgot my macysJOBS username.

It happens to the best of us. Here’s what to do.

From the top of any page on

  • Click the “Edit Application” link.
  • Click the “Forgot your user name?” link (directly below the login boxes).
  • Enter the e-mail address associated with your account and click “Validate.”
  • The system will display your user name and will provide links back to the login page and to look up your password.

Please note – if you have multiple macysJOBS candidate profiles, the system may ask additional questions to verify your unique account.


I forgot my password.

It happens to the best of us on this one, too.  Here’s what to do.

From the top of any page on

  • Click the “Edit Application” link.
  • Click the “Forgot your password?” link (directly below the login boxes).
  • Enter the user name and e-mail address associated with your account and click “OK.”
  • The system will send you an e-mail address with a link to create a new password.

Please note – you’ll be asked to create a new password when you first log in with your temporary password.


I’m locked out of my account.

Just wait five minutes and try again.  If you have more than five unsuccessful login attempts on, your candidate profile automatically locks.  After five minutes, it resets and you can log in (and remember, you can always request your username and password using the links on the login screen!)


I started an application but don’t have time to finish it right now.

Once you have started your application and/or questionnaire, you can always save your work and return at any time to complete the form and submit it. When you’re ready to return to your application, just click the “Edit Application” link listed at the top of every page on  The resulting screen will allow you to log in and complete your application and/or questionnaire.


I’m having trouble with the tax credit survey and/or the questionnaire.

The problem that you are encountering may be the result of your internet browser’s pop-up blocker settings. In Internet Explorer, open a new browser window, and select "Tools" from the menu bar and then "Internet Options." Click on the "Privacy" tab and uncheck the box next to "Block Pop Ups." Then go back to your application and access the Tax Credit Survey and/or questionnaire. Please keep in mind that different browsers utilize different methods to disable pop-ups; if you continue to have issues when using Mozilla or Chrome, you may need to try a different browser to complete the application.


There’s no “submit” button – how do I submit my application?

This may be because you have not completed the Tax Credit Survey portion of the application.  Log back into your application and go to the Tax Credit Survey block. Click on the blue link and complete the Tax Credit Survey.  If you don’t wish to complete the survey, please click “I do not wish to take the survey” link on the survey’s introductory page.  Then click “Save and Continue” until you reach the summary page of your application.  You should now see the “Submit” button.


What’s My Application Status?

How do I know you received my application?

Shortly after you click “Submit” to send us your application, you’ll receive an e-mail confirmation.  If you don’t receive this message, check your spam folder and settings to ensure you can receive e-mail from If that’s not the issue, please log back in and double check that you’ve clicked the “Submit” button on the last screen of the application.


When will I hear something about my application?

It generally takes between 24-48 hours for us to review your application, but it’s sometimes longer depending on the volume of applications received.  We’ll send any status updates via e-mail, so please check your spam filters to be sure you can receive e-mail from


Scheduling An Interview

I’m trying to schedule an interview, but it keeps telling me to come back later.

Our interview scheduling system displays all of the open interview dates and times for a period of 14 days from the time you first click the link to schedule your interview. Sometimes interview slots fill up quickly, and there are limited or no slots available at the time a candidate’s trying to schedule. Please check back, as we monitor the available interview slots in relation to the invitations extended, and we add more slots as needed.


The dates and times available on the scheduling site don’t work with my personal commitments. 

If you don’t see anything on the interview calendar that works for you, please check back later. We add new interview dates and times on an ongoing basis, and there may be something added to the calendar that’s a better fit for your schedule.


How do I request an accommodation for my interview?

Please submit the specifics of your accommodation request, such as a sign language interpreter or an interview via TTY, via e-mail to


How do I reschedule or cancel a scheduled interview?

If you received an electronic interview invitation, click the link in your original interview invitation to access our interview scheduling site.  Once there, click the appropriate link to reschedule or cancel your interview appointment.

What should I bring with me to my interview?

Bring a warm smile and an eagerness to share your experience and learn more about Macy’s. If you want to bring a copy of your resume, that’s fine too.


How should I dress for my interview?

Come dressed appropriately for the position you’re interested in. Professional dress always makes a great first impression.


I was scheduled for a phone interview, but never received the call.  Now what?

I’ve completed my interview, but haven’t heard anything yet.  What should I do next?

Please be patient. We put great care and diligence into determining each individual’s fit for the position and our company, and there may be a number of candidate interviews to complete before we make a selection decision.  You’ll be contacted via phone or e-mail to inform you of the outcome of your interview.


I wasn’t happy with my interview experience – what should I do?
