Site merchandising collaborates with our technology, merchant and marketing teams to achieve sales goals. The result is delivering the best customer experience across our entire omnichannel spectrum.

Job Overview:

The Content Engineering team is a dynamic and fast-paced team within the Platform and Architecture group within Digital Technology. The ideal candidate must be able to thrive in an environment where change is constant. Strong communication, interpersonal and mentoring skills are a must for this position. An ideal candidate for this role would be a strong Leader that would own the issue and see it through resolution. The Content Engineering team releases on a weekly basis, with 2-week iteration cycles, which requires strong prioritization skills as well as the ability to pivot quickly. These releases are marketing content designed to drive sales and SEO for Macys.com. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:
  • Provide technical leadership to the team that develops the presentation layer of the website – responsive, error-free, cross-browser compatible and optimized for download performance.

  • Set standards for development of responsive sitelets and content, with focus on performance, scalability, accessibility, and SEO.

  • Stay current with the newest online technologies.
  • Lead code review sessions with the team to set standards for clean, readable, usable code.

  • Build and maintain collaboration and trust with all our partner teams – either in SF or in NY.

  • Strong creative skills to be able to provide alternate design suggestions

  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality. 
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in building responsive web experience using the latest standards-based approaches (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3) and Foundation, Bootstrap, or handcrafted CSS.
  • Ability to demonstrate previous work experience via URLs.
  • Experience in creating pages that conform to the principles of semantic markup.
  • At least 2 years of experience using CSS templating and pre-processing tools (LESS, SCSS).
  • At least 5 years of experience in developing MVC web applications using frameworks such as Backbone, Ember, or Vue.
  • At least 5 years of experience with a Version Control system (Subversion, Git).
  • Expert-level knowledge of cross-browser design constraints.
  • Experience with JavaScript-based task runners such as Grunt.js or Gulp.
  • Experience with JavaScript unit testing methodology and frameworks (Jasmine, Mocha).
  • Familiarity with design software (Photoshop, Illustrator) and a strong understanding of image optimization techniques.
Communication Skills:
  • Must be able to lead others by providing technical guidance, coaching and mentoring.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and analytical skills.

Reasoning Ability:
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.

Physical Demands:
  • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.

  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time. 

  • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

  • May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.

Other Skills:

  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to learn things on their own.
  • Must have the proven ability to work seamlessly in a cross-functional team development environment.
  • Must have a strong understanding of implementing responsive design techniques. 
  • Knowledge of what is required to develop highly performant web applications. 
  • Ability and desire to thrive in a proactive, high-pressure, customer-facing, environment.
  • Good sense of what is required of a great user interface.
Work Hours:
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
