Federated Department Stores' commitment to education is demonstrated by a unique grants-for-schools initiative called "Earning for Learning," conducted with support from the Federated Foundation. Schools nationwide have received more than $816,000 through employee and family volunteerism in support of academic programs. Just as Earning for Learning rewards associate volunteerism in their child's school or a community school, the program also benefits employees who give time to schools through the Partners in Time employee volunteer program. For more than $869,000, Federated Corporate Services has been paired with two schools - Heberle Elementary and Walnut Hills High School - through Cincinnati's Partners in Education program. Each year, 30 - 40 Heberle third graders are tutored by Federated Corporate Services' volunteers. Earning for Learning complements this support by giving the school $250 for each Federated tutor who gives at least 15 hours of time tutoring or mentoring. Last year, Heberle received $2,500 through the program. From our earnings, as well as through the Federated Department Stores Foundation, Federated Department Stores is able to channel much-needed funding directly to charitable organizations, civic programs, community projects, arts/cultural and educational institutions in dozens of cities. Areas of ongoing special focus for our giving include women's issues, such as breast cancer and domestic violence, and HIV/AIDS. In addition, the Federated Foundation matches qualifying employee contributions to educational institutions and arts/cultural institutions, as well as to organizations focused on women's issues and HIV/AIDS. Among organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area that have recently received support from Federated Corporate Services are: - Local United Way and Fine Arts Fund campaigns
- National Underground Railroad Freedom Center
- Wellness Community
- AIDS Volunteers of Cincinnati
