Relocate to a land of uncommon diversity. Envision a high country lake, a low patch of desert or almost anything in between - where forests, fast-running rivers, and lakes by the dozens share space with great rolling wheat fields and geologically important rock formations. Envision Spokane, Washington, and the breathtaking experience that can be yours when you join the Macy's Northwest team in this city. Close to Idaho's border in Northeastern Washington is the city of Spokane. Originally known by early settlers for its warm hospitality and profitable business dealings, this active little trading post has since grown into the state's second largest city (the largest city in the Inland Northwest). Spokane serves as the hub for Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, and parts of Montana, Oregon, Alberta, and British Columbia. Spokane is a city with a unique personality. Nicknamed "The Lilac City," Spokane hosts the Lilac Festival and the annual Lilac Bloomsday Run (the largest timed race in the world). This city was the home of Bing Crosby, and a large collection of the singer's memorabilia is housed at local Gonzaga University. Spokane also enjoys one of the most affordable housing markets in the nation. A kaleidoscope of entertainment opportunities awaits you in Spokane. The Spokane Opera House is home to the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, traveling Broadway shows, and top-name entertainment. Looking for a more intimate setting? The Metropolitan Performing Arts Center is where you'll find smaller productions including opera, jazz, and plays (and even musical events like Melissa Etheridge and Pearl Jam). Grace the grounds of Manito Park, where you will see gardens of all types (Japanese, perennial, rose, and lilac). Check out Cheney Cowles Memorial Museum's exhibits on mining, timber, farming, and its collection of Plateau Indian artifacts. Or test out one of six local wineries that offer tours and tastings at Spokane Falls. And for relief on a hot day, head to Splashdown Waterslide Park to beat the heat. Downtown Spokane's "renaissance" has brought new arts, entertainment, business and residential options to the area. Riverfront Park is Spokane's entertainment centerpiece. As the site of the 1974 World Fair, the land has been transformed into a 100-acre city park. Within its gates, you'll find some original attractions including Canada Island, the Opera House and Convention Center, the U.S. Pavilion, and the IMAX Theatre with a five-story screen. A 1909 antique carousel comprised of 54 hand-carved horses by Charles Looff (maker of the first carousel for Coney Island) is another special attraction. There's also the gondola skyride that takes park guests over Spokane Falls for an awe-inspiring view.
