While live music can be heard at a number of bars in Lexington, the best music is heard every June at the Kentucky Horse Park Campgrounds. That's where visitors and residents alike take in the "bluegrass-sound" during the annual Festival of Bluegrass. The University of Kentucky puts on another popular festival, the Cultural Diversity Festival, held on campus in late February. During the winter holidays, enjoy the Southern Lights Festival, a four mile twinkling tour of the Horse Park. To see the beautiful countryside in Lexington and the surrounding area, check out Raven Run Nature Sanctuary and Gratz Park. These local favorites are as rich in history as they are in natural beauty. Other popular outdoor destinations in the Lexington area include Phoenix Park and the 100 acres of the University of Kentucky/Lexington-Fayette Arboretum Park. Two of Kentucky's most beautiful natural areas are accessible from either city. Land Between the Lakes, sandwiched between Barkley and Kentucky lakes has more than 200 miles of trails for mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking. If your 4x4 is tuned up, you may want to check out the Turkey Bay Off Highway Vehicle Area at Land Between the Lakes and go "mudding" or off-roading. The Land Between the Lakes is also a natural breeding spot for bald eagles, so keep your eyes open for our national bird. Lake Cumberland is a water sports enthusiast's nirvana. Visit one of the area's numerous resorts to go boating, fishing or to simply relax on the beach. Another place worth a visit is Maysville, KY. On the banks of the Ohio River, this city is home to the National Underground Railroad Museum and is one of the many stops that helped freed slaves make their way to Ohio. Kentucky's two largest cities have a charm all their own. Whether you choose Lexington or Louisville, you are sure to find a perfect fit with Macy's.
