bulletDescribe the contribution you make to your store and to Macy's South.

I contribute to my division in many different ways. I am a group sales manager and team leader for my store. I am also the chairperson for the customer service committee. I have been involved in so many different things in my time with Macy's South. I have headed the United Way campaign, chaired friends and family events, and chaired the Partners in Time committee. I have also trained new sales associates, sales managers and coached interns.

bulletYou've been recognized for your leadership as a sales manager. What abilities and skills make you a good leader? How have you made a difference?

Good communication is essential in leading a team. I make sure my associates have the information they need to be successful every day. This encompasses focusing on the division's priorities as well as training, giving feedback, celebrating successes and building lasting relationships with the associates.

bulletHow do you build your team to provide the best working environment?

I build my team by spending time with them and observing what they do. I give them feedback daily on ways to be more successful. I celebrate their successes and work with them to overcome their challenges.

bulletHow does a strong team foster the best shopping environment?

A strong team is essential in creating an outstanding shopping experience. When people are focused on the same goals and work together to achieve those goals, they feel better about their purpose at work. They have a mutual desire to succeed and strive to do so every day. When a team is consistently working toward the best results, the customer experience is enhanced.

bulletHow do you set the example for your team?

I believe having a positive attitude is the most important part of being a good leader. I am always energetic and enthusiastic when discussing our challenges, successes, and daily priorities. I put a positive spin on even the most mundane tasks. This helps keep the energy flowing and keeps the attitude on my sales floor very positive.

bulletIn the time you've spent with Macy's South, what has been your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was being named Sales Manager of the Year for all of Macy's South. My team worked very hard to be successful in 2003 and this award is a result of their hard work and determination. I truly love what I do. This recognition is quite a thrill.

bulletWhat would you recommend to a new sales manager joining the company?

My advice would be to build strong relationships with your associates. Get to know them personally. Spend time with them. Let them teach you what they know. These are the people that will make you successful.
