I became interested in the dot-com business and found it natural for my career at Macy's to grow at macys.com. I've stayed because of the number of challenges involved with emerging technology. Opportunities accompany challenges, and those are what keep me here having fun.
| What do you enjoy most about what you do and what are your overall job responsibilities? |
As a development manager, I'm given access to a variety of work. I work with various teams and encounter different challenges daily. The fact that lots of things are happening at once makes my job enjoyable for me.
| What contribution do you make to your division and how does this contribute to the company's overall success? |
Above all, I help keep macys.com - from a data perspective - up and running. The Web site is made up of information about our products and I'm contributing by collecting, aggregating and sending that data to different places within the site. If macys.com is functioning, we're generating business and helping the company.
| What has been your most memorable moment since joining the company? |
It's always memorable when we reach milestone sales. I remember when it was just beginning. To see the site grow like that has been incredible.
| How has the training you've received since joining the company benefited you? |
Training from my peers and mentors has helped me develop a skill set that has helped me advance to higher levels within the company.
| Is community involvement important to you, have you been involved in any projects in your division and was this something you considered when joining the company? |
Community involvement is not something I considered when joining Macy's, however it's definitely become important to me during my career here. I've actively participated in Macy's partnership with United Way, particularly fundraising and collecting items for community food drives.
| What do you like best about your work environment? |
I enjoy the flexibility of it. Everyone is very open with their work and has an open mind about other cultures. I really like that.
| What personal interests/hobbies do you have and how do you balance them with your work? |
Since one of my biggest hobbies happens to be programming, I've managed to turn one of my favorite pastimes into a career. I enjoy programming so much that when I'm at work, it doesn't really even seem like I'm working, so in that way the two balance out very nicely!
| What advice would you give to a new employee joining the company in a similar position to yours? What helped you establish yourself and move ahead with your career goals? |
I continue to tell new employees that macys.com is an exciting and challenging place to work. There are lots of new things to learn in this fast-paced environment. Due to the constant flux of technology, I've kept learning. Education has helped me move ahead in my career.

macys.com will continue to be the premier online retailer in the United States.
