The Macy's Experience

Page 1Page 2Page 3*Page 4Page 5

Mark: The one experience that I think has remained true at Macy's in my almost 11 year career now is that I believe it to be a very goal oriented environment. Whether I was a seasonal hire, sales associate, sales manager, regional or a store manager, goals have always remained extremely important. And what I love about a goal oriented environment is that it brings the team together, because in our atmosphere here at Macy's, obviously, we can't achieve a goal on our own by ourselves. There is no one person who does it. It is a collaborative effort. We all have to come together to achieve the overall desired result. And I've always said this - I believe a goalless person is a spiritless person. And we have none of that at Macy's. We are all very goal oriented people, all very result driven people. That's what I think I really love about the experience at Macy's is that every day, when I wake up and I come to work, I know there are goals set out that need to be achieved in every aspect-whether it's people, whether it's business, whether it is something outside within our community. No matter what it is, it is going to be-there is a goal there to be achieved. And most importantly, to be achieved with a team. What I love right now also as we've gone national with our Macy's name brand is the goal right now is to achieve the four priorities-driving the best assortment, having price simplification, improving the shopping experience, and then the marketing, which leads to our four lifestyles, but it all encompasses four priorities, four lifestyles, one Macy's, and that is our goal right now, to be America's department store. And I think we truly are moving in that direction in all aspects of our job.

Fedalia: I totally agree. I think that the team effort that you're talking about lends to a very family oriented environment also. And the experience that I'd had with Macy's is not only that it's goal oriented and goal driven, but because we have to work as a team, we have to really consider every single person within the building to make that goal. And it feels like a family. It feels so good. It's like a professional atmosphere. It is a professional atmosphere, but it's fun at the same time. And you know, if everybody does their part to get the goal accomplished, there's a lot of recognition that happens. And some of those star council meetings that we have with the company to recognize ourselves, our associates, everybody that tries to succeed to achieve our company goals is just really memorable. It's a fun work environment.

Sandra: A personal experience that I had is just striving to achieve a goal, really takes teamwork. Being a cosmetic manager, we've planned some very successful events, and I couldn't have done it without everybody's help - from vendors to MTMs to associates, and my store manager is very supportive, and just preplanning and knowing clearly what the goal is has really helped us to be successful at this and it takes teamwork to be able to achieve any type of goal that you're striving for.

Vicky: I know I touched on this earlier, but having that mentor and having that person that I can go to and help me through has really been great, you know, coming in, and not wanting to move on, not wanting to do anything with Macy's, to having this manager who pushed me, and you know, right now, we're really good friends, and I really enjoy that, because without her, without the assistant store manager, you know, I could still be in a night short-hour position right now. And that experience is great, and now being a GSM, you know, I love my team. It's just great when we have goals-we make our credit goal every week, and we do this together. It's not just one person. It's everybody. It's me out there, you know, showing them how to do it, and doing it with them, and not telling them, but doing it with them, showing them, and that if I can do it, then they can do it, too, because with Macy's, teams do win, because I can't-I can't do this without them. It's not just me. It's them. So, I'm hoping that I can turn around and be that mentor to someone to help push them through, and make sure that they achieve things that they never thought they could.

Adam: I really feel proud to be a part of something that Macy's stands for and Macy's is. When Macy's went national, it made me really realize that this is a company that is America's department store, and that I'm a part of it, and I can make a difference, and everyone's that involved with it. And they can make a difference in my life, too. There's just so much opportunity now that Macy's is national, and I can go anywhere, and there's a Macy's. And so there's all those promotional opportunities. If I need to relocate, I can consider a Macy's in that area. And it's just really-I really feel proud to be a part of that, and I'm thankful for it.
