Assistant Merchandiser"Without working here, I probably would not have been able to make the contributions I do." | Why did you join Macy's, Inc. and why have you stayed? |
My main reason for joining Macy's, Inc. was the training program. I felt it would be a great way to learn the industry. Plus, I felt comfortable coming in with a group of people rather than being the only new person. I stayed because I am happy with my position and I feel Macy's, Inc. has a lot to offer. | What do you enjoy most about what you do and what are your overall job responsibilities? |
In product development, I see a product all the way through the development cycle. It is great to have such an important part in the production of a garment. I enjoy seeing a product through production, to the floor, and then watching it sell. | What community projects does your division take part in and what projects have you personally been involved with? |
I've been involved in the AIDS walk, and our whole department raised around $6,000. I also read to children on my lunch hour, which is great because the kids really look forward to it. I've been involved in the Christmas gift-wrapping and the food and clothing drives. | What project has been most memorable/meaningful to you? |
I love reading to the small children because they are so excited. Sometimes it's hard to get there and back during the day, but it is always well worth it. It's an experience that helps me grow as a person. I realize two things: how fortunate I am and that there are even more ways I can help. | How has volunteering through work, and specifically through Macy's, Inc., helped you to make a difference that you would not have been able to make alone? How does it add value to your experience as an employee? |
Before joining Macy's, Inc. I was in college, and I didn't have time to be involved. Without working here, I probably would not have been able to make the contributions I do. | What do you like best about your work environment? |
The best part of my work environment is getting to work together as a team with my co-workers and coming up with answers by using lots of different people's ideas. | What advice would you give to a new executive joining the company? What helped you establish yourself and move ahead with your career goals? |
Get involved and don't be shy. Step out and do things you've never done before to become a more well rounded person. Know what you want and go for it. Also, speak up at meetings.
