Special Events Each year, Macy's and Bloomingdale's develop and host hundreds of special events. It's part of the excitement of the theater of department store retailing. In many cases, these events involve community causes and charity organizations, which gain through increased public exposure and often through funds raised. Among the company's most visible special events are the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, 4th of July fireworks in New York, Lighting of the Great Tree in Atlanta and the Holiday Star in Seattle, and Macy's Passport, an evening of fashion and compassion held in Los Angeles and San Francisco each year to benefit HIV/AIDS organizations.
