Here are some examples of how we at Macy's, Inc. are working to improve our communities: Employee Volunteer Opportunities Our nationally recognized Partners in Time employee volunteerism program allows all associates - as well as their families and friends - to serve their neighbors through meaningful and fun group projects. Partners in Time activities are carefully structured and organized so they make the best use of our employees' time as they strive for balance in their lives. Partners projects span a range of interests, with areas of special concentration including hunger relief, homelessness, children, education, breast cancer, and HIV/AIDS. Macy's, Inc.'s Partners in Time program, founded in 1989, helps organize associates who are already deeply committed to community service. Today, Partners provides an opportunity to get involved in community service by creating easy, fun, and organized volunteer projects that are done as a group. The program is meaningful for employees in many different ways. Some enjoy meeting co-workers in a non-business setting. Others develop organizational and leadership skills by spearheading projects. For everyone, Partners is a great way to get involved in the communities where they live and work. Local food banks across the country restock empty shelves each July thanks to food collected by associates during "Bag Hunger," a three week Partners in Time event. In 2004 alone, about 3 million pounds of food - enough for 6 million meals - were collected and donated. In addition, the Macy's Foundation gives $10,000 to local non-profit hunger-relief agencies in the names of divisions that collect the most food. Macy's, Inc.'s commitment to education is demonstrated by a unique grants-for-schools initiative called "Earning for Learning," conducted with support from the Macy's Foundation. Schools nationwide have received more than $815,000 through employee and family volunteerism in support of academic programs. Support for HIV/AIDS-related efforts included more than 4,000 hours of Partners in Time volunteerism in 2004, including participation in AIDS walks in New York, Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco, Seattle, and Las Vegas, as well as a variety of regional projects.
