To our fans Bloomingdale's is "like no other store in the world." And for good reason. Beyond setting fashion trends, showcasing the hottest new designers and catering to the needs of celebrities, Bloomingdale's is an icon in American popular culture.
This is where the characters in TV sitcoms, Hollywood movies and best-selling novels shop ... and sometimes work. Bloomie's (yes, we have a nickname!) is a place to see and be seen. Our Manhattan flagship store, at 59th Street and Lexington Avenue, is one of New York City's leading tourist attractions.
We break new ground every day, offering customers an enticing selection of merchandise from around the world: from designer fashions, to home furnishings and decorative accessories that shape the way America lives. We bring our customers the best and the latest - and we bring it to them first.
Bloomingdale's is a national retailing brand with 36 stores in 12 states. Our fabled flagship on East 59th Street and Lexington Avenue in New York City anchors a group of 11 locations in the greater New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. In addition, we operate six stores in California, five in south Florida, four in Chicago, two each in metropolitan Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Boston and Atlanta, and one each in Las Vegas and Bloomington, MN.
Our catalog division, Bloomingdale's Direct, publishes the Bloomingdale's By Mail national fashion catalog that is closely aligned with our stores. The bloomingdales.com website provides our customers with online shopping opportunities from the stores, wedding registries and the Bloomingdale's By Mail catalogues. It also supports our stores with general product and company information.
Bloomingdale's has created a unique synergy among our customers, our merchandise and our special brand of customer service. But we're not content to rest on that success. We're committed to becoming an international marketing company, focused on meeting the evolving needs of our customers. We're always finding new products, entering new markets and introducing innovative merchandising technologies. We constantly remodel our stores, upgrade our customer conveniences and improve our selling areas, ensuring that Bloomingdale's leadership continues into the 21st century.
We're looking for something special in our prospective employees. We want people who are creative, ambitious and motivated - special qualities that make us an unparalleled shopping experience.
Some things about a company you just can't really know until you talk to people on the inside. Enter our virtual world and get a behind-the-curtain peek inside life at Bloomingdale's. What you really want to know is simple - how do the people who live and breathe retailing and who drive our business every day think and feel about their career at Bloomingdale's?
So we've talked to our people from the sales floor to the merchandising offices to our sales support areas, requesting some of our employees to share their experiences with you. We've asked the tough questions to get to the heart of what you really want to know. And they talked, openly and candidly, about how they joined the company, how they feel about their work, and what they see in the future.
The people you will meet in the spotlights below work in a variety of disciplines ... bring different perspectives to the table ... come from diverse backgrounds ... and have unique histories with our company. In the details, their stories are very different. But in the overall Bloomingdale's experience, they are strikingly similar.
Here's what our people had to say ... in their own words ... about their career at Bloomingdale's.

John Sales Manager
"One of the keys to our success is that we train any new employee before we put them on the floor - that's important. When I was first hired, I was partnered with a merchandise manager from a different store. After each new job, I was given additional hands-on training." |
 |
Grace Selling Manager
"We have a great team in the building. It's more like a home - you come into a second family and there's a fun atmosphere. That is one of our strengths - I know I can come to work and feel comfortable with the people I'm working with." |
 |
Lauren Director of Campaign Planning
"There are so many opportunities at Bloomingdale's that you can always be challenged in new ways. If it's something where they can accommodate you, they will. You don't have to go outside the Bloomingdale's family to move up or to explore new areas." |
 |
Gunes Sales Associate
"I believe showing a positive attitude has made things 80 to 90 percent easier. It is like magic. It's really something that is not difficult and just takes a little bit of practice. It makes a difference even in personal relationships." |
 |
Amy Marketing Manager - Bloomingdale's Direct
"I think any year is a challenge to do better than the year before. Macy's, Inc. has strong people and will always have good people working for them, so they will continue to do well." |
 |
Frank Divisional Merchandise Manager
"Whenever you promote somebody, whether it's somebody you recruited from college or a sales associate at staff level that you think has potential, it is memorable." |
 |
Vicky Senior Merchandise Manager
"Coming into work everyday and going above and beyond the expectations of my position are my greatest contributions. When you enjoy something, you do it well. It's fun being here. I never get tired of coming into work." |
 |
Pearl Buyer
"We work very cohesively as a team, and my contributions can be anywhere from offering my opinions and making allowances to support my team and other coworkers to making sure that projects are accomplished." |
